Pan Am

As one of the elements of an advertising campaign announcing reduced fares for Pan Am, the design of the poster speaks for itself. Although the idea seemed simple enough to execute, after much trial and error it was found that the letters could not merely be scaled down from a type but needed to be hand-drawn to cope with problems caused by overlapping faces and shadows. This was in the days before the Mac. In their drive to encourage passengers, or more specifically to save money, Pan Am insisted on paying for the design with air tickets.
